Royal Life Saving Awards & Honours Commendations Commendtions Commendtions Commendations Commonwealth Honours The Royal Life Saving Society - Australia acknowledges the invaluable contributions of time, effort and dedication given by its many members around the Commonwealth and Australia and takes great pride in acknowledging these contributions. Commonwealth Headquarters accept nominations for consideration by the Commonwealth Honours Committee twice a year from the Commonwealth Member Organisations around the world. Royal Life saving Society – Australia is the Member Organisation in Australia – and is responsible for collection and submission of approved Nomination and Citation forms. Royal Life Saving Society - Australia is committed to recognising the efforts of its dedicated members and stakeholders and takes pride in acknowledging these contributions. Their service can be recognised by the Board of Directors or State and Territory Member Organisations (STMOs) through the use of the Commonwealth and Australian Honours Award Systems. Likewise, a paid officer, or a staff member of National Office, STMOs, Sub-Branches or Clubs may be similarly recognised. To complement those awards available through Royal Life Saving Society - Australia and the Commonwealth, a number of STMOs have developed their own awards to recognise the efforts of local stakeholders. This is supported by Royal Life Saving Society - Australia, especially if these are required in order to satisfy local conditions or expectations. A nomination can be made at any time, however the Australian Honours committee, meet twice a year and a call for nominations and made approximately one month prior to the meeting. In considering candidates for these awards, the level and length of performance and the quality of the service rendered are the necessary and key components to be reviewed and considered before any Honour or Award may be granted. Other criteria such as contributions, membership, council or committee involvement, etc. are important factors and these may play a role in determining the candidate’s eligibility and the level of the Honour awarded. It is expected that there will be a normal forward progression through the Volunteer Honours, therefore nominees meeting the criteria should be nominated for awards equal to, or higher than, the previous highest Honour earned. It is only in exceptional circumstances that a higher Honour will be awarded without the nominee having previously received a lower award in the Honour Sequence. Each year Royal Life Saving Society NSW presents Commendation Awards to those people who have displayed outstanding initiative, expertise, and empathy towards their fellow human beings by applying lifesaving skills in emergency situations and sometimes at risk to themselves. We were extremely honoured to have our Patron, Her Excellency The Honourable Margaret Beazley AC KC Governor of New South Wales host the Ceremony at Government House Sydney on Friday 24 February 2023. 18 Certificates of Commendation were presented to members of the general public and NSW Police Awards to officers of the New South Wales Police Force at the ceremony. Over the past couple of months the Health Promotions team have been hard at work visiting schools and preschools all over Sydney delivering our Water Safety and CPR leadership programs. Since May alone they’ve delivered nearly 40 programs to 1500 students teaching them the importance of making good decisions around water and what to do in an emergency. RLSNSW school programs use a mix of story and practical demonstrations to build student confidence and foster a generation of water confident kids all funded through the ClubGrants program. A recent visit to Fairvale Public School in the Fairfield LGA, saw our educators Kerry and Lisa run sessions for over 400 students across a number of years educating them all about water safety and demonstrating some rescue techniques.
