SIS30122 - Certificate III in Sport, Aquatics and Recreation

Overview

The SIS30122 Certificate III in Sport, Aquatics and Recreation provides the jobseeker with a full qualification to begin a rewarding career in the aquatic and recreation industry. The qualification is also relevant for existing workers aspiring to further their career.


Upon successful completion of the training the learner will be awarded the SIS30122 Certificate III in Sport, Aquatics and Recreation – a nationally accredited and recognised qualification.

 

Please note: Royal Life Saving Society NSW is not a CRICOS provider; it is unable to provide national training to overseas students holding a student visa.


Delivery Mode and Duration

Learners are enrolled into the qualification and provided with an overview of training to be completed. A training program is developed in consultation with each learner’s Royal Life Saving mentor, so participants are aware of the milestones that are expected of them throughout the program.

 

Optimally, participants should be able to work in an environment where there is access to an aquatic setting, as on the job assessment is required for several modules of assessment. Recognised prior learning (RPL) for some units is available on relevant application. For those wishing to apply for RPL, please request an RPL application form upon enrolment.


Units which have previously been attained by a candidate will be credited towards completion of the qualification.

 

The cost of enrolment will vary depending on units requiring completion. Please enquire below if you would like more information about pricing.


Candidates have 12 months to complete the qualification. Incomplete enrolments will cease after the 12-month period. If you wish to continue your enrolment beyond this period, continuation fees will apply.

Prerequisites

There are no specific entry requirements for this qualification however participants must have satisfactory underpinning literacy, language, and numeracy skills. A moderate swimming ability is also required.


Unit Pathways

Pool Lifeguard Pathway

This completion pathway ensures that a prospective lifeguard possesses the skills and knowledge to handle a wide variety of incidents that occur on a day-to-day basis at aquatic facilities, as well as incorporating highly developed customer service skills that are vital for employees in the aquatic and recreation industry. This pathway teaches the learner how to provide appropriate customer service to all users of a facility, and to have a basic understanding and knowledge of all programs, activities, and resources available within a facility. It includes a self-paced, flexible training program that also allows individuals to acquire a first aid qualification in accordance with legislative and industry requirements.

 

This course has an on-the-job assessment component.

·        HLTWHS001 - Participate in workplace health and safety

·        SISXCCS004 - Provide quality service

·        SISXEMR003 - Respond to emergency situations

·        SISXFAC006 - Maintain activity equipment

·        SISXIND011 - Maintain sport, fitness and recreation industry knowledge


 Group A – Essential imported Units (5)

·        HLTAID011 - Provide first aid

·        SISCAQU019 - Supervise patron safety in aquatic locations

·        SISCAQU020 - Perform water rescues

·        SISCAQU021 - Perform complex water rescues

·        SISCAQU022 - Provide oxygen resuscitation and therapy in an aquatic environment

 

Group B – General Electives (4)

·        BSBPEF301 – Organise personal work priorities

·        SISXIND009 – Respond to interpersonal conflict

·        SISXFAC007 – Maintain clean facilities

·        HLTAID009 – Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation

 

Existing Lifeguards may be eligible for credit towards qualification completion.

 

Swim Teacher Pathway

This pathway provides entrance to the Aquatic Industry as a Swim Teacher and provides candidates with essential competencies to teach swimming and water safety to persons from four years of age in swimming pools and confined natural shallow water venues.

 

This course has an on-the-job assessment component.

·        HLTWHS001 - Participate in workplace health and safety

·        SISXCCS004 - Provide quality service

·        SISXEMR003 - Respond to emergency situations

·        SISXIND011 - Maintain sport, fitness and recreation industry knowledge

 

Group A – Essential imported Units (6)

·        HLTAID009 - Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation

·        SISCAQU020 - Perform water rescues

·        SISCAQU023 - Plan swimming lessons

·        SISCAQU024 - Teach water familiarisation, buoyancy and mobility skills

·        SISCAQU025 - Teach water safety and survival skills

·        SISCAQU026 - Teach swimming strokes

 

Group B – General Electives (3)

·        BSBPEF301 – Organise personal work priorities- Perform basic water rescues

·        SISXIND009 – Respond to interpersonal conflict

·        SISXFAC007 – Maintain clean facilities

 

Existing Swim Teachers may be eligible for Credit towards qualification completion.
