Royal Life Saving NSW is proud to deliver free learn to swim lessons as part of the NSW Government Learn to Swim for at Risk Communities initiative. ACT Water Safety Program Royal Life Saving ACT is proud to deliver the ACT Government’s Water Safety Program to school students across the Territory. Through strong partnerships with local councils, schools, community organisations, and culturally diverse groups, we ensure this important program reaches those who need it most. Program Overview The program follows Royal Life Saving’s nationally recognised Swim and Survive curriculum, which aligns with the National Swimming and Water Safety Framework. This ensures high-quality, age-appropriate instruction that supports every child’s development in water safety and swimming skills. Classroom Water Safety Modules In addition to pool-based lessons, students complete five classroom water safety modules delivered by their school teachers using Royal Life Saving’s Swim and Survive resources. These modules are aligned to the Australian Curriculum and build vital safety knowledge. Swimming Levels Children are grouped by ability to ensure safe, supportive and effective learning: Beginner For children new to swimming or who need help floating and moving in water. Intermediate For children who can float independently and swim at least 10 metres without assistance. Advanced For children comfortable in deep water who can float, scull or tread water for 1 minute and swim 15 metres or more. 5 practical swim lessons (60 minutes each) 5 engaging classroom water safety modules Qualified instructors at approved aquatic venues Skills assessed against national benchmarks Nationally recognised certificates awarded upon completion Delivered year-round across all 4 School Terms This comprehensive program helps ACT students become safer, more confident swimmers—both in and around the water. Project Elevate Empowering Every Swimmer to Reach New Heights Overview Royal Life Saving NSW is proud to deliver free learn to swim lessons as part of the NSW Government Learn to Swim for at Risk Communities initiative. Leveraging our decades of experience, strong community relationships and expertise in water safety education, we will be providing over 50,000 free swimming lessons to children and adults from Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) backgrounds, low socio-economic communities, First Nations people, and regional and remote communities.
