About Abilities Unlimited Australia
Abilities’ Unlimited Australia (AUA) is a not for profit professional organisation supporting children with diverse abilities to develop the capability, capacity and confidence to participate in active recreation and community sport. AUA uses a unqiue program frame work developed by allied health profressionals, teachers, and disability specialist. Waterabilities is AUA's water safety and swim skill program, dedicated to reducing drownings amongst children with diverse needs.
Waterabilities Support Children Who
- are petrified of the water
- have sensory/behavioural needs and require extra attention
- have challenges processing instruction and find mainstream programs challenging (they need a slowly, slowly approach)
- have physical disabilities and need the intensive 1:1 support
At Waterabilities we believe that every child has the right and should be provided the support to ensure they are safe in and around water. Our lessons are personalised for children with a disability aged 3+.
About the Job
AUA is seeking qualified and dedicated Swim Instructors to deliver our unique Waterabilities program during school terms. Waterabiliites is an intensive, personalised water safety and early swim skills program, specially designed to teach children with a disability or water trauma using structure, reward and progress in a social, fun and supportive aquatic environment. Each lesson is conducted with a 1:1 ratio to ensure the needs of the child are properly catered for.
The 4 most important aspects of the Waterabilities porgram are:
- Building Trust
- Having Fun
- Reinenforcing safe behaviours, both in and around aquatic environments
- Indvidualizing the teaching approach to the needs of the child
Succesfull applicants will be expected to embody these 4 key aspects in every lesson they conduct.

Requirments
Skills
- Knowledge and understanding of swim teaching and water safety, ensuring member safety and enjoyment
- Ability to manage members of various ages and abilities in an aquatic learning environment
- Proven interpersonal and negotiation skills including the ability to liaise engage, communicate with and motivate participants of diverse needs and parents/carers.
- ability to work 8 Saturdays
Qualifications:
- Teaching of Swimming from Austswim, Swim Australia, or Royal Life Saving
- Working With Vulnerable People Number
- Current CPR preffered
- Attendance at AUA waterabilities Training prior to commencement
