HLTAID014 - Provide Advanced First Aid

Overview

The HLTAID014 - Provide Advanced First Aid course develops the knowledge, skills and confidence required to respond to serious medical emergencies, major trauma and complex incidents.


Participants learn how to assess casualties, provide advanced first aid care, manage multiple casualties and support an effective emergency response in challenging situations.


Course includes:

  • Advanced casualty assessment and management

  • Major trauma and bleeding control

  • Triage and multiple casualty management

  • Use of advanced first aid equipment

  • Medical emergencies and medication awareness

  • Safe incident management and infection control



Delivery Mode

The Provide Advanced First Aid course is completed via a Blended Delivery format, which allows candidates to work through self-paced theory content, before being practically assessed.

 

Candidates will work through theory content via online modules, prior to attending the face-to-face assessment to complete practical assessments and demonstrate competence in the required areas.

 

Candidates will receive access to their online pre-course materials upon booking into a course. This content must be completed in full before prior to their assessment date.

If you would prefer a Pre-Course Workbook and Manual rather than completing the Online Theory components, please contact your local Royal Life Saving Office upon booking.


The amount of training is approximately 16 hours, comprising of:

·        Pre-Course Online Learning: 6-8 hours

·        Face-to-face Assessment: 8 hours

Prerequisites

While there are no prerequisites to enrol into this course, practical application of resuscitation and other practical scenarios that will require kneeling on the floor. Candidates must successfully complete the practical components under the award conditions.


Language, Literacy, Numeracy and Digital Literacy

This course requires a moderate level of Language, Literacy, Numeracy and Digit Skills.

ACSF 3 in Learning, Reading, Writing and Oral Communication and ACSF 2 level in Numeracy and Digital Literacy.

Age Requirement

Participants wishing to complete this training are to be 14 years of age or turning 14 in the calendar within which the course is to be held.


Outcomes

Candidates who successfully complete all components of the course will receive a Statement of Attainment with the unit of competency:


·        HLTAID009 - Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation

·        HLTAID010 - Provide basic emergency life support

·        HLTAID011 - Provide first aid

·        HLTAID014 - Provide Advanced First Aid
