Learn to Swim teachers at all stages of their teaching journey are invited to come together for a day of practical learning, fresh ideas and professional development at the Emerging Swim Teachers Swimposium, taking place on Wednesday 30 September 2026 at Cranbrook School Swimming Pool, Bellevue Hill.
Whether you're newly qualified, have been teaching for a few years or bring plenty of experience to your swimming lessons, the Swimposium is an opportunity to refresh your skills, discover new teaching techniques and take away practical ideas you can use in the water.
Learn to Swim teachers play an important role in helping people develop the skills, confidence and knowledge to enjoy the water safely. With every swimmer learning differently, having a range of activities, teaching strategies and approaches available can make a real difference to both the teacher and their students.
The Swimposium has been designed with this in mind, bringing teachers together for a practical day focused on the everyday realities of teaching swimming and water safety.
Practical learning for your swimming lessons
Throughout the day, experienced presenters will lead a combination of interactive workshops, practical demonstrations and in-water sessions, providing teachers with ideas and techniques they can apply directly to their own classes.
Topics will explore areas including:
practical techniques for teaching swimming and water safety skills
creative activities and ideas to keep lessons engaging
adapting activities for different abilities, ages and learning needs
supporting swimmers to build confidence in the water
improving skill development and progression
creating positive and enjoyable learning experiences
fresh approaches to lesson planning and delivery.
With a strong focus on practical learning, attendees will have opportunities to see techniques in action, participate in activities and consider how different approaches could be incorporated into their own Learn to Swim lessons.
Something for teachers at every stage
While the Emerging Swim Teachers Swimposium is a great opportunity for newer teachers to build their knowledge and confidence, the day is not just for those starting out.
More experienced Learn to Swim teachers are encouraged to attend to refresh their knowledge, discover new activities and teaching approaches, and exchange ideas with others working in the industry.
Sometimes even a small change to an activity, explanation or lesson structure can help a swimmer understand a skill differently. The Swimposium provides an opportunity to step away from regular lessons for a day, learn from others and return to the water with new ideas and renewed enthusiasm for teaching.
Attendees will also have the opportunity to meet other Learn to Swim teachers, share experiences and build connections with people who understand the challenges and rewards of teaching swimming.
Earn 12 Professional Development points
As an added benefit, attendees who complete the full Swimposium will receive 12 Professional Development (PD) points towards their Swim Teacher Licence renewal. This makes the Swimposium a great opportunity to work towards your professional development requirements while gaining practical skills and ideas that can be used straight away in your lessons.
